I don’t see any projects like this about Gaza. I know what is going on in Gaza when I look at my phone, but I don’t see anything in the world. We need to see more of it [in our daily lives].
I felt good about doing it [folding kites]. I felt so sad when I looked down and saw the age of the person I was doing it for. I wish I was more artistically creative because my first two didn’t turn out right, but my heart was in it.
It was very moving to make the kites. I paused after each one and read the name and thought of the child and it made it very real.
By folding the kites it gives me the chills just to talk about it. It’s powerfully sad. But also just something to commemorate and honor this person. This child that was lost. I’m really grateful to be able to sit with that.
